My beginning years as a new martial artist were anything but easy, I was the only woman as well as the only woman of color in my gym. In the following years, as other women began to join, I noticed that I was being treated differently from my other female counterparts and I felt alone in the journey. In 2020, I decided to create a space to place a spotlight on the black female fighters, not knowing if there were other sistas in the struggle.  ​

The mission of Black Woman Black Belt is to empower black women grapplers with the tools to navigate the world of sport and self defense grappling. In this network of powerful women, the goal is to unite, uplift, celebrate, and educate us about how to not only survive but to thrive, overcome, and dominate in this male dominated sport.

 

No longer will we be relegated to the shadows. We will not be silenced; we're taking our place as equals on the mat. Like it or not...
